Firework tails aren't appearing?

The tails don’t appear in the effect previews or when watching the show. It’s very weird as it still shows them launching but then nothing appears. I’m using an HP Victus Laptop with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card.

Thanks for reporting! Here are two questions for you to help narrow this down:

First, What kind of CPU does your laptop have?

Second, please try this:

I assume that your laptop, like most laptops, is able to switch between the onboard graphics of the CPU and the GeForce card. Maybe when you run FWsim, your Laptop decided to use the onboard graphics and your GeForce isn’t actually used. To check this, please follow this guide: "Run with graphics processor" missing from context menu: Change in process of assigning GPUs to use for applications | NVIDIA
(You can start reading at “To force Windows to use a GPU for a particular app” and ignore everything that comes before that in the article)
During this process, you will need to select the FWsim exe. You can find it here:

  • for FWsim Basic or Creative Edition, it is in "c:\Program Files (x86)\fwsim\bin" by default unless you changed it in the installer
  • for FWsim Pro, look in "c:\Program Files (x86)\fwsim pro\bin"
  • for FWsim Steam Edition, it should be in “C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\fwsim Fireworks Simulator\bin”

When you are done with this, start FWsim again and check if the tails work now.

Forcing it to use GeForce did the trick! Thank you so much! The CPU is Intel(R) UHD.

Thanks very much for reporting back.

It appears that some Intel graphics chips produce problems where the tails are not visible. In the future we might have FWsim automatically select the dedicated graphics card (GeForce in your example) instead of the onboard Intel chip. In the meantime, it’s best to force it to GeForce using the control panel.
