FWsim 3.5 Beta Feedback

I had a similar feeling as @DFWST . At first, I was just in awe with the new update, -but then I slowly realised that I would have to rework basically many of the effects I did. Now, I luckily didn’t have a big library of custom effects but I was nearly finishing the basics of a potential new catalogue.
So yeah, I think it’s the transition phase which can be quite rough.
For the short term, I would like to reinforce my request for a slider for microstars (which could already be underway due to how it’s possible to change their size) and a way to disable the default launch/explosion effects on a per-firework basis - This mainly to the fact that some may require the beautiful explosion and launch effect, while others may want not to enable it - think of large shell of shells which you don’t want an explosion to ruin the surprise! -

Lastly, I doubt this is possible, but I will still ask it nevertheless, to please allow CTRL+Z in creative versions and the display of height not only in the fireworks editor, but on the display editor too, since it is incredibly tedious to set up a realistic looking fireworks show without knowing the sizes of the place you would like to set that in, as it is now possible to use the google feature.

Thank you for your attention and good work

Thanks all for the feedback. We are hard at work on the new beta, and we are reading all the comments. Some of the problems mentioned have already been solved, others we are currently working on.

Our goal with this update is that nobody needs to modify any of their effects. Everything should look similar to how it did in previous versions, just better and more realistic. That’s why we have a beta test, so we can figure out those problems and solve them.

We probably will not achieve that goal 100%, but we’ll do our best.

@Mangmod @DFWST, it sounds like both of you have effects that now look different. Could you send me those effect files in a private message? I’ll have a look and see what we can do so they look good in the new version. Please send me the files as you had them in the previous versions, without any modifications.

For me, I really don’t mind to updates all my effects into really realistic one and it’s absolutely impressive. And I started to make tails even more realistic after watching these videos for how fireworks really looks like to recreate them. All we need is patience, great things takes time.

Wish you a best of luck to work and keep our feedbacks coming.

And yes, I have any few issues and any new options that I have sent by email and by post here, Lukas. (As you already saw them of course)

After the new FWsim update, I’ve got some issues and requests that I found recently:

  • The ground is cutted in half. But sometimes while enabling or create new show after Real Location loaded, it not shown.

Create new show after loading .fws file with Real Location loaded:

  • The water system needs some adjustable controls (Speed, size, rotation and position).

Looks like Montréal is getting flooded:

  • When trying to open 3D World Editor, it shows an error and it crashed.

Thanks @fy1vo51!

fixed in version .306

Please try again in update .306. Do these problems still occur? If yes, what are the steps needed to reproduce?

That’s a great location. You’ll need to adjust the water level such that it covers the river from the 3D scenery, but does not flood areas where you do not want water. Maybe you’ll need to enter water heiht values by hand instead of dragging the slider with the mouse. Can you find a water level that works here?

I didn’t received a new update yet, but lately via email, like I said, I’d like two things that it needs to be solved:

  • Add an option in effect editor to disable explosion sparks for Ti Salutes.
  • Tails not attached to the stars while simulating with wind.

Okay so I tested the new version:

  1. It worked (But when trying importing 3D models in World Editor or saving world, it crashed)

  2. Working fine.

  3. Yeah, it’s okay.

I feel like many fireworks are too bright…

In the latest beta update, you can use microstars tails instead.

But that means going in and editing every single firework with tails. Is there a way to adjust the brightness level across the board? It looks like an overexposed photo/video.

If having to change the tails of every firework to microstars is the only way, then okay. It’s just a lot of work and I thought there’d be a more efficient way of changing the brightness level.

I think there’s a file called graphics.xml under Resources and looking for brightness settings in it.
(It requires to restart FWsim every time you edit)

Okay, just tried adjusting the exposure correction and 1/exposure time settings in there, but now fwsim won’t open.

You’ve changed the settings from the motion blur

I changed them back but fwsim still won’t open; it just gives me the error message.

Maybe make sure next time create a backup file before changing it or it can overwrite during update

I downloaded the latest beta update but I have a black screen and it generates effect thumbnails 5 times after FwSim closes on its own

Actually, about that, I don’t think it’s gonna fit because it can flooded easily:

Yes, some things are quite overexposed at the moment. We are working on that.

We are working on a consistent look, and our goal is that all the effects should look good without needing to make any changes. If you have effects that look wrong, please send them to me and we will include them in our testing.

Thanks, will send you a private message to figure this out.

I have an another problem. I create a show with enabled “Add Water”. After that, I’d open the Firework Editor and I start creating a new firework effect. Once if I am already done creating in Firework Editor and closes the window, I realized that this will be a major result in “Positions” icons are resizing very wide. Could someone fix those icons perfectly.

It did the same things to me as well
