Help with fireworks

Hello everyone, i’m not sure if this is the correct category, but i need help. I’ve seen many videos on FwSim where the fireworks look very realistic, but in my game they look virtual and slow (also at 600mm). Can someone help me understand what i’m doing wrong?
I don’t know how to properly create fireworks in the game yet.
Thanks in advance!

For me, there is no “proper way” to create realistic fireworks it is more of “make it as near to the reference fireworks as possible”.

Also, my general tip is basically trial and error when creating in the effects editor and try to fire it in a dedicated demo show file (file where there is only one position for ground effects, one for 200mm and below shells, and one for large shells)

So, i need to create it. Aren’t there fireworks already created in database?

Ok so let me clarify it, the reference effects are IRL effects (which I usually do), and the demo show file is you need to create it

Hello, as @CSL_PYRO says, the best way to achieve realistic fireworks is to follow references, and I would say a bit of fireworks theory helps too! It takes a lot of trial and error, but also knowing the software can help a lot.
Let’s start with the quintessential firework, the Chrysanthemum. This (usually) starts with a bright charcoal tail, and then it gives space for the colourful tip. If we want to replicate this in FWsim, we could start by setting the shape of the firework:

  • How do we want the “sphere” to look like? A very accurate one that reminds me of the traditional Japanese fireworks, or something a bit more inaccurate, maybe used in barrages? Depending on your idea, set the Speed and Position randomness to the levels you think are good. The stars count, and size depends on the reference you’re using. It helps knowing the calibre of fireworks, if you look for realism, check out some charts that tell you height and diameter of the explosion,s as these help achieve more realism.
  • How much does the firework last? Try to count the time of a reference firework. For this time, let’s guess my stars will last about 2,4-2,6 seconds for the 100mm shell I want to make.
  • Now for the more interesting parts (in my opinion): see that “Change brightness over time” box? Check it, and you will have the gradient editor. For this Chrysanthemum, I set the starting point around 50% of the gradient. You should see that the firework starts without light, then halfway through it lights up.
  • The other part we need to take care of is the tail. To do this, on the “Stars” component, add some tails. You could use the premade Coal Gold and Charcoal Gold ones. Set their end to about 50%, so that in the preview, you see the tails fading, and the stars appearing.
  • The firework is ready. Give it a name and save it.

I hope it’s useful!

Search fireworks shows and shell displays on youtube, thats how i recreate ‘realistic’ firework shells.

Or you could post the shells you would like to recreate, maybe some of us could give you some advice in creating them.

@Mangmod @kenni201, Thank u so much guys, i’ll try it soon. i was thinking that that on database was better than my creation.
