Imported models reflectivity

I’m building a stage but I can’t seem to get the surfaces to reflect the firework colours or flashes.
It’s there but very faintly for the brighter flashes.
I just want a simple single or 2 colour stage…dark grey or dark blue - no textures as such.
I’ve tried using both .obj and .dae exported from Blender (which I admit I am no expert in) and dropped the .mtl file in the same folder as the .obj and tried using both light and dark colours as well as changing the 3D world brightness etc.
The overall effect I am getting looks for the most part like a black silhouette with no discernible detail to show it is a 2 level stage.
Any help for a NooB would be greatly appreciated.

I think it is just a case of me not applying materials, or something, correctly to my model in Blender.
