The Water Feature

I’m so glad to have the water feature in fwsim - however, I feel like it can be much better.

  1. When adding water to the world, the setting to change water levels is incredibly frustrating especially when I want to lower/heighten it by small amounts. Instead, it jumps/lowers by multiple meters at a time. The only way to do it by smaller increments is by manually typing it, and clicking ‘OK’. I wish it changed without having to click ‘OK’.
  2. Even after setting the water level to a decent height, I have to sacrifice half the world being under water because of the way the water rises.
  3. The water removal tool is also incredibly annoying - it essentially takes a screenshot, and allows you to highlight areas based on the screenshot to remove/restrict water from reaching. However, it’s not a precise tool at all.
  • You have to use that tool before adding the water if you want to see where you’re highlighting, and even then all you have is a screenshot and the need for a steady hand to draw/highlight the desired area.
  • Once you are done highlighting and close that window, if you need to restrict additional areas, you can’t unless you reset what you’ve already restricted and start over.
  1. Once you’ve finally set your water level, and restricted the areas where you don’t want water, you realize that you can sometimes easily tell where you’ve set those water restrictions based on the water levels being higher than the actual ground. This is true if you are viewing from close the the ground (person’s POV) and see out to the water’s edge.
  2. The water also leaves sharp angles and dead spaces in the form of squares/rectangles.
I understand there’s no quick fix to some of these and may not be possible, but those are some of the things that I’ve noticed using the water feature. Sometimes it’s just easier to not use that feature altogether to avoid the headaches.

Hi Joe,

this is great feedback - thanks a lot. I will get back to you if we make improvements in the future - would be great to get your input then.

Best Regards,
Lukas
